Consolidate Varsity’s Academic Excellence, Shun Vices, VC
Counsels New Students
… As 3989 Students Take Matriculation Oath

The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria, Prof.
Igbekele Ajibefun, on Friday last week, advised the 3,989 new students admitted to the
Institution to build on the landmarks of their predecessors – students and alumni.
Prof. Ajibefun also counseled the students to eschew social vices that could thwart their
studentship.
The VC gave the advice at the 2014/2015 Matriculation Ceremony of the University.
The VC said, “Our students and alumni’s landmarks continue to signpost the University's
academic excellence. In 2014, Master Akeem Opeyemi Longe, the first student to graduate with
a First Class in Law did not only repeat the same feat in the Nigerian Law School 2014 Final Bar
Examination, he emerged the Best Graduating Student in that examination. Not only that, this
University won nine out of the 27 prizes available in that examination.
“A 400-Level student of Kinetics of this University, Miss Omolara Omotoso, a veteran Gold
medalist at NUGA and Commonwealth Games, represented the nation at the 2012 Olympics
Games held in London.
“All these feats, and deliberate policies, programmes and efforts put in place earned the
University the rating of the reigning Best State University in Nigeria by the United States
Transparency International Standards, USTIS.
“As a University, we cherish these modest achievements and guard them jealously. Indeed, we
yearn for more. And we are confident that having admitted you through merit-driven policy, we
have opened the door for achieving more laurels and attaining our aspiration to be the best
university in Nigeria and among the best 10 in Africa.”
Congratulating the students on their admission to the University, Prof. Ajibefun said, “I urge you
to choose the narrow but dignifying path of industry, discipline, responsibility, and eschew the
wide and doomed path of criminality and social and academic vices so that your dreams of
becoming responsible members of the public could be realized.”
The VC warned that any student that runs afoul of the rules and regulations of the University
would be shown the way out.
He reminded the fresh students that the University has zero tolerance for vices and has the
legal instruments not only to discover all acts of indiscipline, including examination misconduct,
rape, cult activities, theft, but to also deal with them in accordance with the law.
Prof. Ajibefun said the University would continue to provide an enabling environment through
enacting relevant laws and provision of adequate and modern facilities for the students to
learn.
He urged the students to obey the extant rules and take advantage of the available facilities to
learn and succeed.
He said, “AAUA has the required conducive learning environment, trained and well-motivated
staff and requisite facilities to fulfill our teeming students' learning aspirations.
“Besides being one of the few universities that have operated a stable academic calendar in the
last five years, this University has, in the last five years alone, provided more than 60
infrastructural facilities to take care of classroom, laboratory, workshop and office challenges
that it inherited on relocation to Akungba Akoko in 1999, including the new Senate Building
which unarguably remains the most compelling and best equipped Senate Building in any
Nigerian university.”
The Registrar, Mr. Bamidele Olotu, administered the Matriculation Oath on the students.
