Governance: Gov.
Mimiko Scores AAUA Council, Management High
Ondo State Governor and Visitor to Adekunle Ajasin
University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, on Tuesday
last week said his administration was satisfied with the achievements of the
out-gone Governing Council and the incumbent Management of the Institution.
Governor Mimiko, who was accompanied by some top government
functionaries in the State, made the statement during an inspection tour of
AAUA on-going five-storey Senate
Building, after the Opening Ceremony of the Ondo State three-day Mini National
Conference, held at the University Guest House.
He said, “On behalf of the people and government of Ondo
State, let me put on record, our admiration for the way, Council and Management
of this University, have run this place in the last five years. We are very
proud of your accomplishments, especially in the academic field.”
The Governor attributed the huge academic success of AAUA
students to the merit-driven admission policy of the University, saying, “Our
goal is to build a 21st Century University and that is why we are
particularly glad that in the last five years, there has not been ‘Vice
Chancellor’s list or Governor’s list’. Every admission into this University has
been 100 per cent on merit. That is the foundation.”
Governor Mimiko said his administration “remains
unequivocally committed to our dream of building a real University.”
Responding, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Femi Mimiko, thanked
the Governor and the Ondo State Government for their robust supports for the
University.
He said, “The number of projects that we have put in place
since the Governor Olusegun Mimiko-led government came into office is more than
all the projects we had in place in the first 10 years of the University.
“I, therefore, on behalf of the University Community, express
my most sincere and deep appreciation to the Governor and the Ondo State
Government for the support they have given to this University. We are committed
to continue to deliver a University that is worthy of that name – a University
that is 21st Century compliant.”
Prof. Mimiko said in few weeks’ time, the University will invite
the Visitor for the inauguration of the Senate building.
